Maths

We will be exploring using multiplication facts to divide and recognising that half is the same as dividing by 2.

We need to keep practising our 2s and 4 times tables.  We will be exploring converting pence into pounds such as 123p is the same as £1.23

We will be exploring recognising an increasing variety of coins and using different coins to pay for items up to £1 and £2 and calculating the change.

We have explored perimeter of shapes and will be looking at independently measuring larger objects such as tables, books and other objects using a tape measure to measure accurately.

We will continue to multiply a teens number by 2, 3, 4 and 5 by using grid method.

English

I will be introducing our new class book, The Boy who Grew Dragons. I will be reading a chapter every day on Seesaw.  Do you have a favourite book about Dragons or mythical creatures?  Would you like to read it and record it on Seesaw?  Perhaps you can change the ending or act it out using props and costumes.  We will be using our growing knowledge of adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe dragons.   What kind of character would your dragon have?  Can you use some of the exciting adjectives and similes we used last term?   We will be checking our spellings of High Frequency Words so please practise them at home.  Can you draw a picture of a dragon or mythical creature and practise your spellings by writing them all around its body?

RE

We will continue to explore how the Values and Virtues Grateful and Generous can continue to influence our lives.  After 2020 gave us so many challenges, what are we grateful for as we move into 2021, a brand new year!  How can you show you are grateful?  How do you show generosity? Talk to your grown up about being grateful and generous.   We will be looking at the importance of community.  We will reflect on the celebrations of Christmas and look at the journey we have through the year such as birthdays, holidays, term dates, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and how these are celebrated.  We will also look at the liturgical year and how it shapes the Church Family.  We will look at feast celebrations, Sundays and special seasons.

Task 1: Science

We will be exploring different rocks and natural materials.  What is your house made of?  Look at different houses and buildings in your area.  What materials have been used.  How suitable do you think they are?  Can you research other buildings in Newport or even Wales and find our what materials they are made from? Are they man-made or natural materials?  Where do you think the natural materials come from?  How are they sourced?

Task 2: Project

We will be exploring a range of Dragons and Mythical creatures.  There are so many wonderful models of such creatures in story books and in galleries.  Have a go at making one using man-made or natural materials.  What materials would be suitable?  Why?  Can you plan your model using a diagram and labelling it?  Upload your work to Seesaw.

Task 3: Art

Choose a scene from Tangled, Shrek or another favourite fantasy film and create the image choosing media of your choice.  Can you create an animation?  You can create masks and act it out with your family.
